New Year's Resolutions

Happy 2016! In this post I thought it would appropriate to start the year off with suggestions for new year resolutions (or goals), so here are my top 10 suggestions. But first, if you feel you don't have anything to "resolve", then I suggest to call them "goals" and continue pursuing higher possibilities. Otherwise, I completely encourage you to continue to pursue your resolutions, but more importantly, to find the driving force within you.

1. Learn how to cook.
Many of us depend on outside-prepared foods every day, but cooking our own food makes a huge difference in our health. Learn to prepare a variety of simple foods that you can quickly make and learn to cook 3 - 5 more elaborate dishes.

2. Take up a discipline, sport or activity.
Yoga, parkour, dancing, martial arts, team sports, recreational sports, are all great ways of exercising while having fun.

3. Take up a meditation practice.
Through meditation, get to know what goes on in your mind and allow it to re-organize itself to become the sharpest tool in the shed.

4. Overcome your shyness.
If you are a shy person, get a book on overcoming shyness and start doing it today. Being more involved in every interaction that you have with anyone at school, work or home is very rewarding and opens up many possibilities.

5. Learn to play a musical instrument.
It's always great to keep learning, having fun and being creative.

6. Give up something different every other month.
Why? To maintain malleability and adaptability. We tend to develop strong likes towards certain things, that if we don't have those things we tend to suffer. Giving up one of your favorite, but unnecessary, things every month or every other month will allow you to find a better appreciation for it and will allow your happiness to be less dependent on your environment and more derived from your inner self. (Do not give something up that would make it counterproductive, like exercise or brushing your teeth.)

7. Enroll in a continuing education class.
If you have the desire to keep learning, what better time is there than now.

8. Travel.
Go somewhere that you've never been before. The world is vast and beautiful so why not experience some of it.

9. Create art.
You can almost feel you brain being activated in a different and positive way when you get creative. I have not done enough of it so this one is on my list of goals for 2016.

10. Read.
The next best thing to having an actual experience is to read a book. This also stimulates the mind and the imagination while allowing you to learn something new.

If you have any other suggestions please share. Thanks for reading and have an amazing 2016.
